I am attempting to find a monitor that supports interlaced and 4:3 aspect image playback as well as support for HD resolutions such as 720p and 1080i(hdcp support). And also form factor is important because i have little room (lcd or plasma). So, in short, i am asking for sugestions.
The problem arises when the monitor is widescreen to support HD and then stretches all other aspect ratios to fill screen space. I bought a Gateway fpd2185w and ended up giving it to my older brother who uses the generous real estate for industrial design and xbox 360 that supports widescreen in all games. While it offered the inputs i needed such as component and composite, it stretched both my xbox games and n64 games to an almost impossibly fugly state (the edges are extremely jagged).
Besides that problem it was an excellent monitor for computer use and native widescreen games. Anyhow, can anyone recommend a monitor that has the features of the gateway but can do 1:1 pixel mapping or retain the native aspect ratio or the original picture?
At this point, just about anything is appreciated. I've searched high and low for a monitor and possibly a external scaler/deinterlacer that can do this and all have seemed to exceed my price budget, which is about $400.
Thanks.
