HD access issues.. help greatly appreciated

Hey guys, Here is my setup:

A8N-SLI
36gb raptor on sata plug 1
40gb Maxtor HD bought last year (2mb cache, 7200rpm, nothing special) as sec slave (meh.. it works lol)

the problem is that every time i access the HD's all at once there is a long delay (about 2-3 minutes... and the program freezes during this time) before they get opened/accessed

this mostly occurs when I hit the "Browse" button like in imageshack or aim file transfer.. looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong ass pause and then after a year it would finish.. At first I thought it was the nVidia SW IDE driver, but i uninstalled that and it still happens. maybe its something else?! :confused:
excuse my grammar, but i woke up hella early this morn and im out of it =/
 
When you right-click on a file and/or hit "properties", do you get a similar delay? Some programs (like Winrar, etc) associate themselves with all files and then get screwed up, so they cause the huge delays.
