HD 6950 2GB overlocking

Have you tried Sapphire's Trixx software?

or MSI's Afterburner software?

or

simply using the Overdrive function in the Catalyst Control center?

or

you may have a dud. Overclocking is a crap shoot.
 
well, watch temps and don't blame me if you burn your card up...bit if I remember correctly I had a 6950 up to 1.2V

try a little voltage
 
What settings have you tried and what resolution do you use?
 
Start your OCs lower and increase in increments of 10 MHz.
Only increase one clock measure at a time, ie first do GPU clocks and then after your satisfied do the memory.

You can raise the GPU VCore slightly if you desire, if your card will allow it, but only after you've arrived at a stable stock value.

Don't just pick some random values and dial them in, do it systematically.:D
Have patience.

I have 3 of those, 2 maxxed out at 905 with one of those running quite a bit hotter, had to watch the fans and if things got hot they would crash, run them about 880 now, the 3rd will hardly go over 840, runs cool though
 
Have you done anything with the fan profile? These cards can run hot when overclocked and the stock fan profile may not cut it.

Aside from that I agree with the other posts to start with gpu and go up in 10mhz increments until you notice instability.

Once you do scale back about 20mhz or so.

Do the same with the Vram

I ram my pair of 6950s for a very long time at 1.215v if I remember correctly and they never failed me.

Also out of curiosity do those have a unlocked bios via a switch? I think many of the sapphire models did so I'm wondering if the cards are unlocked with all the shaders.

Anyhow post an update it would be nice to see where you are with this.
