hd 5670 or gt 440

Since you didn't give us any info, im just going to assume that its for a medium resolution, budget gaming rig. The 5670 beats the 440 pretty easily in every review I could find. The 6670 was just released to take the 5670's spot. It is a little faster than the 5670, making it the best choice in the same price range as the cards you listed.

If you are buying new, 6670 (same price as the 5670, but more powerful).
If you don't have a choice except for the two, the 5670.

im ordering this from ecollegepc $452. its $150 more than i want to spend and im gonna use my windows xp disk from an ibuypower pc. all i want is 1024 res and medium settings.

That setup is actually going to handle every game on maxed settings at 1280*1024, although a few games like metro and stalker cop will be running in the low 20s. (If you meant 1024*768, then there really isn't going to be any problem)

yes i meant 1024*768 res. im hopping to play arma 2 and red orchestra 2(but tripwire won't make any specs official)

You do know if you or anyone you know is a college student you can get Windows 7 Premium for 69.00 off of www.microsoft.com/student .

All you or a friend needs to do is use a .edu email address. I got Windows 7 this way for my laptop through the wifey's .edu acct. Quite often they have it discounted down to $29.00 too!

I just hate to see you put XP on a new system that can utilize Win 7.

Edit: Just checked and right now it is on sale for $29.00

im an old fart. i don't talk to them kids. lol i might know one. i'll ask her about it.

i think you could probably get a better setup for less money, i suggest you head on over to the general hardware section of the forums and pump danny for advice.

if you go 7 then you absolutely want 4gb as 2gb will not cut it for some games. and of course you will want 7 64bit.

actually there would be many games he could not max at 1280. a 5670 is not too much faster than a 4670 and that could not max all games at 1280 even 2.5 years ago when I had one. of course if he sticks with XP then he will not even have the opportunity to run some games at higher settings since those settings would require DX10/DX11. heck he would not even be able to play Just Cause 2 at all since it is DX10 only.
