Just wondering where the HD 4870 X2 lands out of these new cards? AMD has not said a peep about any kind of 4890 X2 yet.

Would there be any point in upgrading or I guess moving to a 2x 4890 Crossfire setup from a 4870 X2 or 2x 4870 Crossfire system? Seems the 4870 X2 is still a top contender for the rest of the year at least. More so with better drivers each release.

If you have a current gen card I don't see much point in upgrading to one.

2 x 4890's are faster than a x2, especially if you OC them. but i don't think its worth the money to move to them if you already have a 4870x2 or 2 x 4870's.

its inevitable they will come out with another x2 card, its the only way to keep taking back the performance crown while they're working on new chips.

I felt the same initial upgrade pangs after seeing the nice performance improvement of the 4890. I was even considering selling both my 4870 x2s for $350 a piece to move to 4890 crossfire -- doing so would probably net me $200. Then I thought about the hassle and realized it wasn't worth the trouble.

I'd say, if you're happy with your x2, stick with it. Crossfired 4890s would probably get you 10-15% improvement, but you'd being paying around $150 for that after you sold your x2 -- not worth it IMO.

4890x2 How do you know when that card isn't even released yet? You must be getting advanced hardware models.

He said that two 4890 1GB cards in crossfire would be faster than a 4870X2 card.

We know this because two 4870 1GB cards are faster than a 4870X2 card.

Oh you people who constantly have to upgrade are so funny.
4870X2 to 4890 CF? Really?

I suppose when the 40nm card comes out shortly, you'll want to CF those, just because it's newer tech.

yes, sold my gtx 285, in stepup from gtx 260 to gtx 275, ordered a hd 4890, will order another to try cf soon. Do it all again when next cards come out. Thats my hobbie I guess.

got a pair of 4870, but still going for 4890 cf...

maybe 15% performance doesn't seem much, but it does increase quite a lot overall, especially overclocking it......
