Hd 2900 pro benchmarked

nice card?, all those benches were done at 1280x1024, and

8800gts 320mb still looks like a better choice, the price will probably be the same

unless it overclocks like a champion, 2900pro is not going to win any hardware of the year awards, or any awards for that matter

no wiedzialem ze cos nie tak z tym textem, ale po pijaku ciezko czytac ) .. i pisac

http://pclab.pl/art28806.html

the article says, the unofficial word is that all the 2900xts that couldn't run at the spec speed of 743 MHz will be sold as the 2900pro versions, and that the rumored price is 249 USD, physically the card is the same as the 2900xt, and of course will not have the UVD, but has a DVI-HDMI adapter

the card comes with a full version of Dungeon Siege (someone shoot me) ....(in the head please) , and some demos
from the quick tests they have done, they say that 2900pro is about 10-20% slower than 2900xt

they also say that the representatives from HIS have assured them that the price of the card will not exceed 950zl, which at the current exchange rate is about 354 USD (i guess thats a good value for a european market?) the cheapest 2900xt can be purchased there for 485USD

stable overclock they got out of the sample card was 750/900, at 760mhz core the card would crash and show artifacts at 910mhz ram

they end the article saying that it's rumored that the card will not be made in large quantities and that it's still laud and still draws a lot of power... (but also has all the pluses of the 2900xt)

Beware of confusing the OVERCLOCKED 2900 Pro speeds with the standard speeds. The Pro is not faster than the XT... they just didn't run any comparable XT overclock numbers.

should be a good deal though if priced at $249 or lower. Finally, something to drive 8800GTS prices down...

It's $320 according to some initial pricing I read.

It looks like it performs at about 80% of the 2900XT, and costs 80% of the price, so it's not really a bargain.. just another pricepoint checkbox.

The 2900XT already has problems keeping up with the 8800GTS.. why would you think this 80%er is going to help drive prices down on the 8800?

The 2900 Pro won't drive down nVidia's prices, but I bet the RV670 card I posted about earlier certainly will. 2900XT-like performance at $200 with only consuming 130W (for Gladiator cards) certainly sounds like a great deal to me. But I'll wait for benches before I jump ship, of course. Might be a good reason to switch to an RD790 board while I'm at it. After that comes R680. Wonder what ATi has up their sleeves...

also note that HIS cards are always the highest in price. So I would expect a part from sapphire for a bit less.

The TweakTown review isn't bad, but the selection of games is rather...boring. Certainly not the titles I would have chosen to test with.

Wow, those are some very nice results from a card that is supposed to be 250$.

...till you turn on AA and AF. Why do some sites still run tests on high end cards without AA at low res like 1280x1024? Absolutely ridiculous.

To be fair you need to look at tweaktown review listed above.
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1189/his_radeon_hd_2900_pro_512mb_early_test/index.html

Maybe ATi have finally come out with something semi exciting for the price.

Possibly. But honestly, people would rather have an 8 series because they know that they will have no problem with current games at big resolutions with AA (8800GTS 320MB and up, of course).

It's been established that the 8 series is as fast, if not faster than ATi's counterparts. And I think that scares potential buyers away. There has been such confusion and hate towards the 2900's that I think people doubt they will get the performance they want, whether their fears are justified or not. They would rather buy on the safe side (NV) than ''risk it'' with ATi.

Just my 2C's

The tweaktown review makes this look like a pretty good card, if it does settle down to about 200-250$. Although, I can't stand when a reviewer throws in random graphs where the starting point is not zero. Theres a couple of wtf graphs that make a 15% between the pro and XT look like the XT is twice as fast. Why even put the graph there if it dosent help you see the diffrence.

Indeed this looks a nice card and just for the right price considering myself. Been trying to get into the middle range cards for long time but untill todate there really has not been one. Maybe this card really is worth considering and, if not, atleast it should push 8800GTS 640MB prices down abit. 8800 series prices have not budget abit in months atleast where I live.

Iam gaming on 1680x1050 so 8800GTS 640MB really is the only sensible card for me on Nvidias camp at the moment so this 2900pro is exciting news alteast for me. Plus the 2900 poor AA does not bother me anymore so much since with 1650x1050 resolution the 2x AA is plenty for me.

ps. When you benchmark a middle range card what is the point with uber high resolution tests anyways? Middle range card for middle sized (normal house hold) resolutions sounds reasonable for me. Dont think monitors > 22" are really mainstream for middle range users just yet.

This is the price the HD 2900 XT should've been released with. This is a XT, with a "Pro" moniker anyway...
For the price, it's definitely worth looking at. I still want to see real-world gameplay numbers, but it seems this card, gives the current "bang for your buck" card (the 8800 GTS 320) a run for its money.

Very true about mentioning the interesting game choice...cant wait for more benchmarks! These guys seem a little bit gung ho about it...payroll maybe?

Yeah. But once again, it stuggles with AA a lot of the time. Which is why people are so '' iffy '' about it.

At $200, even $220, it would be very attractive. But at $250, I'd rather spend the extra $20-40 on a 320mb GTS. I do like my AA/AF, afterall.

But I'm waiting until November to see if the G92 rumors are true and all that good stuff.

its at newegg for $280, amd doesn't bring any competition to the market whatsoever, 8800gts 320mb is already faster than 2900xt in many cases,
in "real gaming", when AA and Aniso are used,

for $220 i would consider it, but it would still be a though choice, because 8800gts 320mb had already sold for $240 a few weeks ago, and probably would still be a better choice

the card comes with a full version of Dungeon Siege

Does that mean ATi finally have a card that can run DS properly? My pair of X1900s drop down to 40FPS or so when playing at 1600x1200 with all eye-candy turned on and 16xFSAA, and on top of that Crossfire isn't supported at all, it actually makes things worse. If this card can run DS on max settings at 1600x1200 with 16xAA truly it is a mighty one.

Cards great and all if you like playing without AA/AF. I would rather pay the extra $$ for the GTS so I can actually use AA and AF.

AA has got to be a driver problem not a hardware problem. Why does ATI's stuff all of a sudden not do AA well when previous generations had no problems? IMO eventually they'll get their drivers ironed out. When did 8800 come out? When did HD2xxx come out? Give them some time. How long did it take Nvidia to get vista drivers out?

Not necessarly, ASUS cards were shipping with STALKER even though it ran (runs?) like crap.

No, they don't have hardware AA unlike their old generation cards. Its broken or missing, eitherway it doesn't work and AA has to be be done in shaders, which thus reduces the amount of shaders that can do anything else.

Are you serious? Or just messing with me? I didn't know there is some hardware flaw preventing AA from smoothly running.

not really a flaw, more like a poor design decision, when the X amount of shaders are used to do AA, you have the X amount less shaders to do the other things ...that shaders do,

im sure it would work just fine if they had twice the amount of shaders they have in the 2900xt right now

It definitely is not retailing @ the $249 that was mentioned by AMD. $280 is still a bit high and so, it doesn't affect the 8800 GTS 320 too much afterall.

if only it was single slot! anyone know if there is any single slots planned?

Not likely for this card. The card your looking for is probably the RV670 (got that right?) which will be 55nm silicon respin of the R600 chip. It will sport single slot cooler but release date is bit fuzzy still. My best quess would be early 2008 as I read so somewhere.
