I currently have a pair of Sony MDR-V6 and would like another set of cans, for a good price, and just to play around with. Who has tried the HD-201's ? Whats your personal opinion on them, and can anyone compare them with My V6's? I've heard alot of hype about these headphones, but not much user experience here on Hard.

The 201s are very balanced for the price. Rolled off highs, decent mids (not really forward though), decent bass that isn't really muddy. Nothing too exciting about these headphones, but you can't beat them at $25 bucks for closed cans. IMO you'll probably find the V6s more lively from what I've heard about their highs and overall sound.

Perhaps you could try an open headphone like the KSC-75s instead, which present a grado-like sound that is more detailed and airy. The 75s also respond a lot better to amping, expecially with the introduction of an ohm adapter.

There's a wealth of information in the past weeks and months about the hd201s on head-fi. I hope you've found this helpful.
 
The 201 is pretty damn good for the price, it's sound is tilted toward dark with it's slightly recessed mids and the driver reaches it's excursion limit with louder bass, so playing bass heavy things loudly is out with these. The headband seem a bit weak, so I think they should be treated with care and not used as beater phones. But within it's limits, it's a good phone.
If you want a beater phone, maybe the ksc 35 or 75 clip-ons could work for you, think of them as a cheaper Grado sounding phone with more bass.
 
I say keep your mdr-v6's!

I own a pair of hd-201 headphones. they sound good but aren't as clear as the sony's imo. also the hd201 are made of plastic (headband is cracking all over the place), heavier, and bulkier (and look retarded on your head) than the mdrv6. A friend of mine has the mdrv6, and I would trade any day of the week over these junk things.

I want to get rid of these hd201's and get some mdrv6's..
