I just saw this post on the front page, and I was wondering if "Havok Complete" is the sort of physics that can be hardware accelerated by GPU/PPU. Their site and the product page was not very informative. :/

Havok uses its physics engine in games such as Oblivion and yes it is hardware accelerated by 7 series Nvidia cards (Not sure if/which ATi cards do.

They are the competitor to the Ageia sdk which requires a proprietary card to accelerate the physics calculations.

Do note that the Ageia card does not accelerate Havok and (currently) video cards do not accelerate Ageia applications.

Careful, the HavokFX portion of its API is hardware accelerated, and unfortunately the 7 series won't do anything for that either - nVid seem to have abandoned that idea, and relegated it to the G80 instead. ATi is still pushing the x1*** series as physics capable, but no drivers or apps as yet either :(

Havok Complete seems to be Havok's new package that includes HFX as well as all the animation/multicore stuff so Fable2 should be HFX enabled - why pay for something and not use it, eh?

6 months on and nothing's changed - PhysX still has no real killer apps out and Havok still needs to settle on a platform and MO for HFX. The world of hardware accelerated physics is particularly dull right now.

The world of physics would be a lot better if they could agree on a single API to use it from. It's like the old Glide vs OpenGL vs Direct3D days where all three battled for gaming supremacy. No game developer wants to code crazy cool physics for multiple different physics processing platforms. If Microsoft makes a Physics API (which I'm sure they're doing), then it won't matter what's in the box: Aegia, ATI, or Nvidia. Then it will just be a matter of which product does what the fastest and with the least hassles, which is a lot healthier form of competition.
