Having trouble formating a 200 gig drive

Win XP Pro with all SP's and patches installed. It goers thru the motions and then says formating was unsuccessful.

Drive checks good. It's a Seagate. IDE ATA

am I runing into some sort of OS limitation here ? I also have a couple of 200 gig SATA drives and I didn't run into any problems with them.

have you tried formatting from the command prompt? It might give you a better error.

What else? Third party tools? Partition Magic 8 maybe? Are you quick-formatting the drive?

Thanks, I figured out it was the removable rack i had it in that was causing the problem. I plugged it directly into the on board controller and it formated without a hitch.
