Having problems with 965p chipset

Hi, I just put together my system and wow it's super fast. I had some serious problems installing my e6600 but I eventually got it to boot up. However, when I pop in a Windows CD and try to boot from CD it won't let me. I heard that the 965p chipset does not have native ide support and that the ide ports that come with the boards are implemented from scratch? Could this be a problem? I am able to see my DVD drive when I boot into my old installation of Windows but I can't see it in the BIOS. The only thing that BIOS detects is my Maxtor hard drive not my NEC DVD drive or my Samsung primary hard drive. I need to reinstall Windows since this is a new motherboard processor etc but I can't boot from CD to do so. I installed windows on another partition from withtin my old windows installation but now I can't get it to boot to there. I believe the Vista boot loader complicates things as I don't know how to get rid of it without booting from CD and fixing the boot record. Ahhhh so many problems, I'm going to try to fool around with the ide connector etc and see what happens. My two hard drives are SATA and the only thing ide is my dvd burner.

By the way this chip is awesome. I'm running it at extreme speeds already and haven't really had a chance to go any further. I want to get a fresh copy of windows working first.

edit: I'm using the MSI 965p Neo-F motherboard, oem e6600, Arctic Freezer Pro 7 cooler, 1.5gb 3x512 of Corsair Value DDR2 667 ram.

Got the hard drives sorted out, but the optical drive problem is still there.

you say the ide drives are not listed in the bios?
is there an ide on/off in the bios.
Since its probably from a secondary controller. not the ich8
it might have to be enabled.
you may have to detect and set it in bios under a pio mode.
Until you get the os and the drivers installed.

try this... boot with no harddrives attached and the CD in the drive. See if it will boot then... of course you won't be able to install anything.... but you'll see if it's an issue. Also... double check that you have the CD drive as the first device in the boot order. You probably do... but double check since if you "reset to defaults" it may very well put that lower on the list.

I took out the hard drives and the f'ing thing booted from CD. So now I connect the hard drives again and go check bios and messed around with a few settings. After an hour or so I checked boot priority again, it was set to boot explicitly from cd rom as in all three boot devices were set to cd rom. However, when I press enter I see my dvd rom drive as a selectable option which totally pissed me off as something so small can be so problematic. Setting to cd rom didn't do anything as I needed to set it to the new option that was my dvd rw drive. Anyways thank you everyone for your help as I now have my new system running smooth as silk.
