Earlier today I took the heatsink and fan off my CPU, cleaned all the dust off the heatsink/fan and replaced the thermal compound (with CoolerMaster IC Value V1). I have also re-installed Windows on my new SSD. I am running a hardware monitor tool and with 100% CPU load it says the core temps are as high as 90C. (Its a Core 2 Duo E6400 on an Intel DP965LT motherboard using what (as far as I know) is a stock Intel heatsink and fan.

Should I be concerned about this? Did I screw something up? Do I need to worry that my CPU is going to fry? (probably not, I know modern CPUs have cutouts that will shut things down before the heat gets to the point of causing damage)

I followed the suggestions on the internet for thermal compound replacement. How can I tell if my temps are at normal range or if they are too high (and if they are too high, what might be the cause and how I can solve it)

Last thing I want is for my system to shut down unexpectedly because my CPU is too hot (it was annoying enough when it was my GPU that made it do that)

Could try a better heat sink if you can find one that works with newer sockets as well
