Using a Scythe Mugen 2vB on an Asus Rampage II Gene

Looks like the shop assembling my new PC build says that they can't put a push fan on one side (I wanted to put 2 but the clips don't fit this heatsink) since it is right up against RAM slots with overly-high heatsinks.

Is there any harm wrt to airflow to having only the pull fan out at the other side, near the case exhaust fan? (Antec Mini P180 case)

So instead of it being on the right, it'd be on the left, exhausting along with the back case fan.

hmm without an intake fan out front to suck in cold air to pass through fins to go through heatpipes to cool the cpu, this would kinda be crappy right?
 
In some limited testing with my Megahalems, I didn't see any difference with having one fan pushing against one pulling. But, that was very preliminary testing, so it might not be consistent. I'm confident you won't have any real problems going this route, but you might loose some(if any) cooling performance.
 
The fans would all blow air to the left, in that pic.

However, the fan on the right in the above pic can't be there because of tall ram sinks. So it'd be on the left, so both would be pulling air to the left without any one on the right hand side. That's what I'm wondering about.

The only intake would be one on the case nearer to the bottom, so more to the lower right outside of the above example picture.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to clarify:

A is the fan at the rear of the case sucking air out the back.
B is where a fan would normally bad blowing air in from the front.
To the bottom right corner is an intake fan near the bottom-right of the case.

However, B is where a fan won't fit since it is blocked by RAM.
C is where it has to go. It will be taking air to the left as well.

I'm wondering if things will suffer too badly without a fan at B.

I may try to see if the SLIM Scythe case fan will work.
 
Nah, youll be fine. Air either blowing or pulling is still moving the same amount of air (meaning a fan that can move say 50cfm will do so blowing or sucking) so its all the same. You really shouldnt be that worried...plus, with a heatsink like that you shouldnt have any issues even if there was no fan at all!
 
What about remounting the heatsink and direct the airflow out through the top fan?
 
technically this heatsink will let me mount on all 4 sides.
 
If you wanted you could do your original idea but turn both fans around and make the back exhaust an intake then build a little duct on the right side of the heatsink leading to the top fan.
 
What care are you using? Is that fan in the back an exhaust? If so, just rotate your HSF to exhaust out that, remove the fan on the back...get 8 zip ties and rig it up!

Looks like the Scythe Slip-Stream Slim won't work either since the RAM heatsink fins are too tall. I will have to switch to "normal" RAM heatspreaders.
