My computer loses connection....
the small icon on my try (networking icon) would get a big red X
then a couple seconds later....back on...and off... this goes on for about... 14 min
then it stops... until next time

Im using a Dlink router (di-704)
and my computer has a dlink NIC (dfe 530tx)

has anyone had any issues like this before? could my NIC card be dieing?
need info =D

Could be the NIC, router, cable, or service.

Try hooking the modem direct to the system. (Eliminating the router)
Try a different cable.
Try a different NIC if you have one.

Any other computers having the same problem on the network?

i do have another computer on the router and its fine. no issues

my logic is...
1: if it was a bad wire it would either work... or not work
so im ruleing that out...
if it was the router all my machines would have issues...and they dont
so im thinking network card...
dont have one on hand to try it out so im gona go buy one today

anything im overlooking?

(ran antivirus ... all clean)

~70-80% of all network problems are cabling related. I'd start there first. Flakey cables can introduce intermittent outages just like anything else. If the connectors or pins are not seated properly then a slight bump is all it could take.

Change the network card for the sake of a quality card. Those Dlinks use Realtek chipsets, whom make horrible network card chipsets. I used them in the past and horrible performance and lack of reliability were what they were best at. 3Com or Intel NIC's are your friend.
