Having intermittent issues with my gpu

I have a Gigabyte r9 280x and I have been having this issue for awhile, its intermittent and doesn't do it in all games but most of them. I have never overclocked the card, my frame rates are always great, and changing in game settings and trying new drivers haven't helped. The card has done it since it was new and the only reason I did not RMA it was because it was a gift and I have no idea where they got it. Here is a picture of what I am experiencing, When it does happen usually restarting the game or my entire pc fixes it and it goes away until another random point in time,

I checked my warranty and stuff and it's still good. I am going to wait for some more opinions so I can properly describe the problem when I rma the card. How long does an rma usually take?

I had a similar issue with the same card, seems like it was a relatively common problem with the 280X. RMA'ed it and got a new card, same problem. From memory, further searching and experimentation led me to believe it was something to do with drivers/anti-aliasing methods and changing those settings fixed the issue for most games. Eventually i gave up and upgraded because it was a bit of a pain having to deal with it randomly happening and then changing settings to fix it.

From what I have read it's common but no one really ever had a fix for it. Any idea if the r9 300 or 400 series cards have that problem still? If so I will just switch to nvidia

It was only a 280X problem for me, no problems with a 270X, 290X, 390X or Fury Nano.

I bump to the power limit in afterburner fixed this issue for me...

I've had the same problem with the same card, the r3 300 series doesn't have this problem.

I might look into a r9 300 or 400 series then. I get plenty of performance out of my card, this is my only issue I have with it at all.

Would anyone recommend the 380x? I can pick one up on newegg for $189 right now. It is only a 256bit card compared to mine being 384bit. I'm sure it's more of a sidegrade I just want these glitches to go away, then for another 80ish I could get the rx 480. decisions...

if you are going to spend some money, go then straight up to the RX 480, going to be a cheap big upgrade over your current 280X.

My last 7970 did that early on here and there, but it eventually got worse. Changing or updating drivers could get it going......So it never hurts to try that route first before rma'ing, But i think your card is just faulty and will get worse over time. I would open up a support ticket. IF it were only one or two specific games after updating drivers and using ddu then that would point to a driver glitch. Almost all games does not!

I have the most recent drivers currently. It does it in DayZ, GTA V, Arma 3, and Just Cause 3 mostly. The other games I have I don't recall it happening but they are older games as well mostly.

Looks to me like you broke the Matrix. :D That said, now is as good a time as any for an upgrade. :)
