Having control problems in BF2

A friend of mine is having some weird problems in BF2.

His keyboard/mouse is putting it a sporatic commands and the character is moving on his own. Also, when you hit the fire button once, it unloads the whole clip instead of fireing off once shot. Hitting W will also make you run a mile. There's nothing wrong with the keyboard/mouse because it works fine in every other game.

Reinstalled several times, still same problem. We've also tried several mice/keyboards and drivers, nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
 
check the sensitivity in the in game options as well as software that the mouse/keyboard may have with. i remember i had a trouble with CSS where i kept spinning around. Turns out the binds in joystick for bf2 were messing me up.
 
Here's a time-consuming step to try: Remove ALL key binds in every section and just re-assign the ones you need. That way you'll remove any doubt that there's a conflict and/or primary/secondary map issue.
 
I have no idea how to fix it, bf2 has some weird bugs, i guess that might be one. Email EA support.

All the controls are set to the default, I can't see how they conflict with each other.

He does have a logitech Wingman, I'll ask him to unplug it and I'll see what happens.
 
I know he doesn't have problems with other apps but perhaps have him try no specific software drivers for the key/mouse and just have Windows use the default drivers. Just as a test.

BF2 is buggy as all get out so it's tough to troubleshoot its issues.
 
Don't try any drivers. Just plug 'em in and use the auto-driver thingy that pops up to get them to work.

He did that already, no go. I'm still waiting on what he says about the joysitck.
 
Does this only happen online? I'm having somewhat similar issues aside from the full clip issue. I think it has to do with my NIC card though because I'm getting "Problem With Your Connection" messages. It ends up sending me running even when I let go and I get annoying stutters.
 
Its your audio drivers. Did the same thing with my AV-710 (different card, but still stry). Had to bugger around with the settings in the audio drivers.
Try uninstalling the audio drivers.

Your audio drivers? Wow, can't see how that relates with control and lag but I'll have him check it out.
 
Yeh in both it was happening. It was the absolute last thing I tried, after pulling out almost all my hair, lol. Definetly audio for me, have him uninstall the audio drivers and try the game.
 
I'll second an audio related issue. As I mentioned I was having some similar issues ie. my character was doing the fucking moonwalk making it impossible for me to shoot. This was with onboard sound.

I got pissed and put my Audigy 2 in. Loaded up the drivers and such. Issue seems to have disappeared, no more moonwalking and plenty of kills.
 
Try disconnecting any joysticks or joypads, they used to conflict with my KB and mouse now and again when I tried to play, usually when the joystick has only just been plugged in and hasn't been collaborated it affects the movement in game. If its not set up correctly and its default collaboration is with the joystick slightly forward you WILL move forward, same with any direction.
 
i once got some jelly on my dualshock 2. the square button seized up, and i couldn't shoot anything in snake eater cuz the rebound on the button was too slow. so i gave my dualshock 2 a hot bath, let it dry for 4 days, and it works great!

This does not reload the profile located in the my documents directory (unless you deleted it seperatly).

I'd recommend you uninstall, delete the directory under my docs (will lose all settings associated with the game, browser list favorites, etc) and reinstall from scratch. Good luck.
 
OK, here is what we did:

Uninstalled sound drivers for both Audigy 2 ZS and onboard Realtec, didn't work. (Also reinstalled)

Uninstalled and deleted BF2 directory, reinstalled, didn't work.

Reinstalled chipset drivers, didn't work


I'm running out of ideas. He pointed out to me that his CPU is running at 100% while in game. Mine only runs at 55%. Could this perhaps be a problem?

Here are his system specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
AMD CPU (FX-57 I think)
1 gb of XMS
ATI Radeon x1800XL
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Now the sound blaster was in his old machine and it worked fine with BF2, so I don't think thats the problem. This problem does not occur in any other game on his system, just BF2. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
OK, he just told me that this problem is now occuring in other games such as CoD2 and his CPU is running at 100% when he runs it, just like BF2. Is it possible his CPU is not powerful enough?
 
If his CPU is an FX-57 that is MORE than powerful enough for those games. Perhaps a BIOS update? Is he overclocking his hardware? Perhaps he needs to download the latest AMD driver. If he's messed around in his BIOS a lot, perhaps he changed something and has forgotten to change it back. Maybe try stock BIOS settings. Maybe try going to WalMart, knocking over rolls of toilet paper and running through the halls yelling, "Gremlins!!" I don't know...
 
Is this wireless or wired control devices? Maybe he just has a bad physical port. Where the device plugs in.

I've seen bad NIC's send continuous data, i.e. the data light stays lit. A bad physical port could create some strange behavior for sure.
 
I tend to agree with the port thing.

Does it do this in notepad? If so, test outside the OS, boot to a 98 bootdisk or something and see if it does it at a command prompt.
 
He's tried all of the ports, same thing. Is it possible that all of them could be bad? We have also tried multiple USB drivers. There is also absolutely no lag while in the OS. No lagging in typing, nothing, it's just in game when he's moving around. Also, it's possible that his CPU may be fried. He did tell me that his old machine used to overheat a lot and he used the same CPU from the old machine.
