Having a problem with ati install-need assistance

Having a problem with my girlfriends computer.She has a 3870 ati card running with 2 gigs ddr2 and 3.2 dual core amd.Running win7 32bit

After trying to upgrade ati drivers i keep coming up with this

ATIPDLXX library! Exiting now,

I am unable to install any drivers it seems.I uninstall in safe mode all drivers.I even used the sweeper from guru 3d to try and wipe out any remaining drivers.

Any ideas beyond having to format.

10.2 drivers would not install and these drivers started all the probs.Even did a system restore and i still have the same problem.
