Guys,

I have the logitech Z640's. What is the next step up with logitech being the manufacturer of choice?

Why? How much do you want to spend?

I would say the Z5500's. But that may be overkill, and are close to the Klipsch 5.1 Ultras, which are regarded as the best.

if u want the best, i would just get the klipsch 5.1s

best purchase for my computer ever

Klipsch 5.1 Ultras. I just hooked mine up and I am blown away by thier sound and they aren't even broken in yet. Very smooth articulate sound. Nice balanced soundstage, maybe a tad forward but again soooo smooth. I have heard $800+ subs that aren't as well controlled as this little dualy 8". The best part is I bought them refurbhished for only $249 direct from Klipsch. Thats before tax and shipping. Before anyone starts bitching that these speakers don't have any digital processing or DD/DTS decoding you need to remember one thing, these speakers were designed with sound quality first at a decent price point. By the way the amps for this set of speakers have a VERY LOW noise floor. It's a wonderful experience. I can't wait until my Audigy 4 comes in! DVD-A here I come!

So yeah, to answer the fella's question, Klipsch 5.1 Ultras. :) Happy listening guys.

logitech the 5500's
non-logitech computer speakers: klipsch.
home stereo: anything.

personally i'd go with a home stereo. much much much longer use and appeal. and alot more choices.
