i want to put a few leds inside my cdroms so that when you have the drive ejected, it will light up the tray with a colored glow. basically so you can see the writing on the cd when you set it in the tray.

any ideas?

Ummm... just do it? :p
Take apart your cd drive and see where you can fit them. Then you'll have to wire up the LEDs with the right resistor (Formula for finding the right resistor is in the Case Mod FAQ at the top of the forum). Personally, I would hot glue the LED's to the inside top of the CD drive's case. Then just wire them up to a solder point on the Molex connector to get 5 volts or 12 volts.

Yep, that should do it. You can also throw in a micro switch which turns them on when the cd tray has fully opened.

Word of advice: buy five of everthing you'll be using that aren't tools, (diodes and resistors not being that outrageous) and try it with a drive you don't neccessary need.

Cool idea, I gonna keep up with this post....I want to do something similiar to that as well.

Also for anyone out there, would it be easy to put a sequencer in there as well, kinda make the lights flash or chase, or something like that....kinda like a runway only circular? or possibly a strobe light?

Anyways go for it, I wanna see pics...LOTS OF PICS!!! :D
