Have a question about GPU and CPU folding

My rig is a Phenom II 955,GTX 260 and 4GB RAM

So I just got the smp and GPU2 clients installed and running, should I be running them together?

GPU temps are crazy high, they were starting to creep up on 95C with 100% fan in a air conditioned room, should they get that high?

What would net me the most ppd? running the only the GPU client, just the CPU client or both?

and on average how long does it take to complete a WU?I have finished almost 2 on the GPU client and still working one the first one with the CPU client.

Yes.

That seems kind of hot, so you probably have something else going on. What components are getting up to 95C? Is anything overclocked? If so, how much? What kind of cooler are you using on your CPU? What kind of case are you using? How is the airflow?

Run both. We have almost the exact same set up and I see 12-15k PPD from mine. You can see my stats at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27615/folding/summary.html

and on average how long does it take to complete a WU?

It varies by WU. Some GPU WUs are done in an hour and some SMP WUs take over a day. It just depends.

Make sure that you have a passkey and that it is in your client's config. If you don't know what that is, check the FAQ's at the top of the forum.

And WELCOME to the Horde!!

It was my gtx 260 that was getting up to 95C,its not overclocked at all and is using the stock cooler

Im just using the stock cooler on my CPU,but its only running at 52C,my case is an old raidmax smilodon its small and cramped but I installed 3 silverstone fans that keep everything in it a decent temp normally.

I checked my GPU load temps with the kombuster stability test that comes with msi afterburner and the load temps topped out at 78C but once I started the folding client they almost instantly jumped to 80C and just went up from there

I usually run my 55nm SC 260s at 80% fan speed and they hit low 70s at worst when the ambient is like 34-36c. 95c is high especially with the fan at 100%... is yours a 65nm 260 by chance?

Maybe try air can dusting the card out, see if that helps a little. What are your gpu temps while gaming usually?

I cleaned the card out last night, generally when gaming it doesn't get very hot at all,70C-75C at the most, its a 55nm core 216

The CPU temp seems in line, but the GPU temp seems high. My GTX 260 55nm 216 shader models are also stock EVGA versions, and never hit that high of a temperature even without setting the fan manually.

Hopefully cleaning it out will help.

But, to answer the other question, and echo leagle, it's best for maximum PPD to run both the CPU and GPU2 client together.

Work units can vary depending on the size and type. Once you have your TPF (time-per-frame) we can see if the vid card is throttling at all.

Try leaving the side of you case off and see if that helps temps on your GPU.

If it does, leave the side off or add more fans.

Welcome to the team!

my stock clocked, stock GTX260 runs at 73C with very little variation, with a fan speed of 70, in an Antec 1200 Case.....dont know if that tells ya anything, maybe it can help

yeah theres something seriously wrong with that GTX 260? did you do the 1.18v mod on it? because that was the only time my gtx 260 ever got above 80C and even at 80% fan it never went over 85C.. stock voltage 1.12v it sat at 60% fan 75C..

the cpu temps perfectly fine.. as far as completion time it depends on the overclock and the WU.. at stock id say roughtly between 12-36 hours.. the 6040/41 take about a day and half to complete and are huge PPD killers.. the 6701/02's take about 15-17 hours..

ok,I dont know what was/is wrong, but right now it is running at 75% core usage according to MSI afterburner with 75-80% fan speed and its only 62C

I messed with the slider in the advanced tab and turned it down some,it seems to have helped.

No I have not done any volt mods on this card,it is completely stock,I am getting what sounds like coil whine, its a bit annoying but not unbearable.
