Haswell updates

In other news, intel is making chips.

Seriously, nothing if interest there. If an actual leaked ES chip is benches, then I care.

Support for OpenCL may make these chips different from the last gen if developers start using this. We'll see.

Eh, I planned on waiting a little while anyhow. Now I know post-July should be pretty safe.

I don't use too many USB3 devices anyhow, so even if I did get a board with the "bad" chip, I wouldn't care too much.

still a ton better than the P67 Sandy fiasco with everyone having to change out their mobo.

In a Product Change Notification bulletin from Intel confirmed that the current Lynx Point 8-series and C220 chipsets for Haswell have a bug that causes USB 3.0 devices to disappear after entering S3 standby mode. The issue has been fixed in stepping C2, this updated chipset will start sampling on April 19th but won't hit the market until late July.

Read the full article. July is when they ship to OEMs. Full availability of C2 stepping will be in August at the earliest.

Looks like I'll do my upgrade in September/October, which is fine by me. I get a $10k/annual raise the end of September.
