All come with "up to" i7 processors, of course for the ULV chips that means just 2 cores, so meh on that spec. Up to 1TB HDD or 512GB SSDs (although if you like burning money, you should just paypal it to me).

$1099+
Who cares about the rest? The X240 is the one.

4.0lbs
$899+

I heard reports that battery life could be up to 17 hours, not sure if this includes the 540s, but if it does, it will be the first 15" notebook I have heard of that does so. without external batteries attached.

"First up are the T440 and its slightly higher-end cousin, the T440s. ...and "up to" 17 hours of battery life when equipped with a high-capacity battery."
"The X240 is the thin-and-light option, and while it offers a smaller 12.5-inch screen, it can also be configured with a 1080p display. ...Lenovo promises more than ten hours of battery life with the six-cell travel battery attached, but it doesn't list an estimate for the standard three-cell battery (assuming the capacity increases linearly, expect about five hours). "
"The S540 is rated for "up to" nine hours of battery life (six for the S440)"

I'm wondering if the HD5000 will be capable of supporting laptop display plus 2 external displays. Currently we have to buy the models with the nvidia optimus graphics for this config but I read that new gen of integrated graphics can support 2 extra displays. Hopefully HD5000 will support this and not just the graphics in the desktop haswell processors. Anyone know?

No convertible x240, that's a bummer unless one is supposed to come out later.

Well, let's give Lenovo a chance before we write it off. Stands to reason the tablet version might require a little more time to design/test before it's ready to release. I also didn't see T540, X1 or W series refreshes announced, and I don't expect lenovo to completely abandon the portable workstation segment.

Absolutely. The x200 convertible series seems to have done well by Lenovo and they are nice devices. Of course with the other Windows tablets that have on tap they may not want to dilute those sales. I do like the convertible form factor and would like to update my x220t.

Holy sh** at the w540.... Lenovo is bringing it hard this fall...
Yeah, that W540 news convinced me to hold of on my planned purchase of a retina MacBook Pro. I want to see what the W540 really is all about before buying anything else.

Info on the T440p is what I was waiting on. Ethernet IN THE BACK again!

I guess they've moved the speakers to underneath now?

Holy shit W540..... a 3k(16:9 retina basically) screen on a haswell refreshed 32gig rammed thin, 5 pound workstation? I am salivating...

Yeah the 15.5 inch 3k models are going to be quite popular I think, MSI are experimenting with them too.

I've had the T440s for a few weeks now so if anyone's interested in buying one soon, allow me share some thoughts.

The FHD display is gorgeous. It has a 100% sRGB gamut and a 800:1 contrast ratio. The viewing angles aren't the best for a IPS-type panel, but it's still vastly better than any TN panel.

The battery life with the 6-cell external battery is great. I'm getting 12-15 hours surfing the web at greater than 50% screen brightness.

As a trackpoint user, the new 'clickpad' took a while getting used to. It was annoying for about a week, but now I can use the trackpoint without hassle, and the trackpad is much larger and better than previous generations (I still don't use it however).

The build is solid and actually it takes quite a bit of effort to open up to install upgrades. There is a slight bit of flex in the middle of the display cover, but the keyboard and base unit are solid.

I hope this is useful for anyone considering the T440s. :)
