Has anyone used GameFly?

Kind of tossing around the idea to giving it a try. My only thing is that in order for it to be cost effective you need to play the games a pretty decent pace. Just trying to get feedback from those of you that use it or have used to see what everyone thinks of it.

Used it for a year. $30 for unlimited rentals for 3 games out at a time wasn't too shabby. Turn around time was pretty quick too: about 2-3 days when I sent a game back. Try it, you might like it.

It's been a while since i tried them but I wasn't too satisfied.

They have (had? maybe they added some more) only one distribution center in the west coast and things would take 3-5 days to get from them to me or the other way around. So if I sent something on Monday they wouldn't get it until Thursday and IF they shipped it on Friday I wouldn't get it until the following Wednesday.

Whereas netflix has a distribution center in my state and when I send a movie back they show it in their system the following afternoon and ship it then and I get it the next day.

So my suggestion would be to sign up if you are on west coast, and call and ask if they added distribution centers if you aren't on the west coast.

Yeah I am in California so it would more than likely show up to me pretty quickly. The other thing is that I only have an Xbox360. I got rid of all my other consoles, so all I would be getting ar 360 titles. Not sure if there are enough of them yet, but that part is up to me. I may just give them a shot.

Nothing but love for Gamefly here. It used to be slower like Korgun said, but now its done more efficiently. As soon as they get the post office scan information they dispatch your next title. Avoiding the return shipping time altogether. If you can finish a game in 2 weeks its worth it. One thing though, we have played through most 360 titles we want, so we are now playing regular xbox titles using the backwards compatibility. Which seems to work great for us. Big visual improvement on those old games.

I live in Dallas, TX. Cancelled my sub. 3 months ago.
Got sick of the 2 week turnaround time. (2 weeks to send, 2 more to recieve.)
I got a free month when I complained, but they never fixed the problem, like they said they would. One particular month I had a game for 2 days, sent it back, never got anything till almost 20(!) days later.

Horrible service. Like someone else said, if they expand the distribution, MAYBE. But from my experiance, They suck. And HARD.

EDIT: I forgot to detail, they lost 2 games. So one month I had nothing. Paid $21.95 for nothing.

I've had GameFly for about 4 months now, and so far it's been a very mixed bag.

I live in WA, my distribution center is in California, and mailing is 3-4 days each way. So far they've only once had a game I wanted "Available Now", so every other time we add an additional day while they wait for something to become available.

On average, including weekends (they do ship/process on Saturdays), I'd say turnaround is 10 days. With Netflix, for contrast, I can send a movie back on a Monday and have another by Wednesday.

For a long time they didn't seem to have enough stock either, at least for Xbox 360 games. Nearly everything was always on "Short Wait".

I'll probably give them another couple of months and see what happens on the distribution center front, but if that doesn't get much faster then I'll be cancelling. As it is I only rent stuff I know I won't buy.

Also, I'd say that if NetFlix decided to get into game rentals, GameFly would be toast.

I used Gamefly for atleast 2 1/2 years now and its been good. :) At the beginning it was great 2 in, 2 out within 3-4 days. After a period of time I moved up to 3 in, 3 out. The service was still pretty good 3-4 days turnaround. They slacked a couple months, but the holidays slows the mail down some. There was an issue when I moved to 4 in, 4 out. A few
games got lost in the mail. Some new punk was implying I was trying to steal the games.
After I called him out to review my account statis (100+ games only 3 lost/broken). That crap was settled. After all the highs and lows of their service, I'd say it is a good deal. If you like games and don't want to waste your money on games that may sux, go for it.

For the price of one game ($39.95) you can rent up to 16 games in a good month.

Do you like spending $639.20 on games you might not like? :)

about 5 months now had a problem once i threatened them with cancelling my service if there service doesnt return to normal.havnet had a problemsince

Two games got delayed on their way back to them because of my postal carrier switching routes and changing a driver. They told me that they "deemed quality of service unfit for this address" and proceeded to cancel my account. In otherwords "You almost lost us money, good bye :D". They also forced me send back a game I had out that I was currently playing. Also, turnaround time in Kentucky was about 8 days, sometimes much longer. Overall my experience with them was not a good one.

To me, it's only worth it if you play a lot. My dumbass roommate would have gamefly games just sitting by his 360 and not playing them! He had CoD2 for like 3 months before he mailed it back.

If you play a lot, it's great.

I use netflix, and I love it. I'm a movie freak though, more so than games.

I just started Gamefly a few weeks ago and I like it so far. There are games that I've wanted to try but haven't been willing to spend the cash, and it's nice to have that evaluation period. For example, I received Freedom Wings (DS) on Monday and it's going back in the mailbox tomorrow, and that saved me $30 because without Gamefly I might have bought it on spec (I'm an impulse buyer) and been sorely disappointed (I found the game almost unplayable and certainly no fun). I got to try out Mario Golf (GC) which bored me as it was too easy and the presentation was lackluster - again, probably saved at least $10-15. So, the $14.95 I've spent so far has been well worth it. I suppose I could have done B&M renting for quite a while now, but I really don't like shopping in rental places, especially if I take the trip and find out that what I want isn't available. At least with Gamefly I can get availability information instantly.

All that said, I wouldn't get it if I only had an Xbox 360 (multiple consoles FTW!) because there are so few games right now. It would probably be a better deal for a single-system 360 owner after the 1st of the year, once the holiday spasm of releases has passed.

PS- I haven't had any difficulty with shipping times (I'm in Portland, Oregon) so far. It's about a 4- to 5-day turnaround and I can live with that. My feeling is that as long as I'm renting at least 4 games a month, the service is worthwhile.

Just for anyone who is interested, GameFly still only has one distribution center on the west coast. I asked them a couple weeks ago because I was considering it, and the reply sounded like GameFly had almost no interest in expanding their distribution network.

I would steer clear if you are east of the Mississippi.

that's too bad. I'm going to be picking up a nintendo when they come out, and was thinking about trying them out.
I'll have to check up on them over the next couple months and see how things are.

like i said im in new york and only had one issue with them. turn around time is great. takes 3 days to get a game to them and 3 days to get one back. i've pretty much played every single 360 game thanks to game fly.

Gamefly is awesome. Good service, pretty fast delivery, and they have all the games you could want for each system, unlike rental stores. Plus it's about the same price as you would pay for an mmo like WoW. Personally I think getting tons of games every month and keeping them for as long as I want is a lot more fun than grinding in some mmo every day. I also think the Q list is a nice feature - being able to select all the games you want and what order you want them delivered to you - good way to save time. Now imagine paying 6 bucks for a 2 day rental at blockbuster (new releases), not even giving me time to finish the damn game... crappy.

See I would classify that turnaround time as crap and unacceptable. That is a week you are without a game, 1/4 of a month, or if your paying around 20$ that is 5$ down the drain. On their website they advertise 3-5 days, what you just said is 6. Until it is 3 days from when I send out the game to when I get the next one back it isn't worth it for me. I am not gonna spend a monthly fee to have half the time taken up in transit.
