Hardware woes after cpu upgrade attempt.

Hi guys well trying a cpu upgrade has brought me sooooooooo many headahces.
Here are my specs
P5Q PRO
E8400
2gb gskill ddr2-800
Radeon HD 4850 w/ 512mb of ram
640gb WD black HD
640gb WD aaks HD
samsung dvd burner
Antec true power trio 650w psu.

Ok so here's what happened, a buddy of mine was selling me his Q9400. So I took out my e8400 and replaced with the q9400. It did take a while because I have an tuniq tower cooler. So after poping the new cpu in i booted up and loaded setup defaults. A few seconds after windows loaded up my screen just went crazy, sort of like all fuzzy. So I thought i'll just format and i'll be done with that. So I poped in my windows 7 cd but the install froze up, tried it again and it worked. But the machien started doing the same thing. After some failed attempts to get the pc going i decided to pop the e8400 back in. Well I did that an reinstalled windows, this time it actually worked. I was done installing comodo firewall and restarted so when i got back in, it locked up like it did the first time.

Because of time constraints i haven't ran memtest on the ram. So here's what I already did.

cleared the cmos with the jumper
took the cmos battery out
i'm using factory defaults on the mobo.
I tried adjusting voltages on ram and cpu
flashed to the newest bios
All of this has done nothing to help me improve my situation. On one of my installs i ran everest stability test and it ran without any problems for 30 minutes, but when i installed comodo the machine started crashing again.

So i booted into safe mode and removed comodo, the machine seems to be running somewhat fine. I noticed any program that i have installed an try to run never comes up, but when i look at the taskmanager it shows the app running. Tomorrow i'll see if i can get some more ram to swap it out.
 
Make sure your motherboard has the newest BIOS... especially for the q9400.

You might also want to reseat all your add-in cards such as your video card, etc. Reseat all the cables as well.
 
As suggested above check for a newer BIOS first.
failing that, also as suggested above...

I would strip the machine apart, clean up all the contacts and rebuild.
Bad connections can cause all manner of problems and they do occur through continual heat cycling causing expansion/shrinkage of connecting components allowing dust to work its way in.

pls report what temps you can.
Idle temps mean very little but they still can give a clue in a bad situation.
 
Ok well last night i was able to do about 3-4 hours of memtest without a single error. Also I had the semi newest bios when i dropped the q9400 in. After changing back to the e8400 i did get the newest one. Well it looks like it's better now, but i don't feel 100% cause it still has issues loading apps. Also when i dropped the e8400 I did take it apart completely even took out the mb to easier removal of the heatsink and that didn't do a thing. For some reason unknown to me if i install comodo it makes my comp crash, but running stress test doesn't do anything to it.
 
Well it looks like it's comodo that's causing the crashes. I tried installing it again and couldn't even get half way when it crashed on me. It's still really weird cause that's what i was using before on my previous win 7 install.
 
Its possible your Windows data has been corrupted by the crashes and the machine is now ok but the OS is in need of help.
Try another install of Windows on a spare drive and see if that works ok.

Failing that,
test your CPUs stability, check this thread on how to do it.

Report the load temps, as well as if it passes/fails for a couple of hour run.
Use the latest Realtemp to measure max temperatures, nothing else please as results vary.

Check the event logs to see if there are any clues there.
There may be something in there that indicates a problem before it crashes.

So next time you crash, you can read the blue screen report and tell us what it says.
 
Well I already installed windows about 5 times and that hasn't helped. The load temps are 40-45 and idel temps are 30-36. I did run a stability test with everest which will test all the components, ram, cup, video card, and even the hd windows is installed on. No crash there.
 
Until you prove the CPU is truly stable, we dont know for sure, your test isnt one I would use to test for stability.
Temps look very good but it doesnt mean it is stable.
Its pointless doing constant speculation, you need to help us narrow down the possibilities.
Once we have established what is good for sure, it puts us closer to finding the problem.
 
Ok well I guess when i get home i'll run prime95 or orthos for a while and see how that goes.

Also i was able to play a game and install more stuff before i tried installing that blasted comodo. I'm also going to install xp and see how that behaves.
 
Be sure that all cores are running 100% to get a valid test.
