Hardware sound in Vista?

Has anyone figured out how to get games to recognize a sound card as "hardware sound" in Vista?

I have Audigy2, which in XP is recognized as Hardware sound but in Vista its all "Software" with no option to select Hardware. This reduces game performance and sound quality of course.

I'm not really sure if this is something Vista is forcing or if the current sound drivers just dont work properly...

Cool. Good info there. I guess I will have to find out from various game devs if they will use this new method.

Right now games suffer from performance loss when sound is enabled so I assume they currently are not using the new features.
