I was wondering what hardware setup you guys are using to run the forums. I'm just starting to get into Linux system administration stuff (recently purchased an unmanaged VPS), so I was curious as to the hardware setup you're running.

Whatever it is, it must be pretty damn good. These are easily the fastest forums I have ever seen. :)

IIRC, I've seen Gentoo and nginx listed on the error message page, so I'm pretty sure the [H] runs on those.

I guess you don't visit very many vBulletin forums? :p ;)

Yeah, the response headers confirm this. Interesting to know (especially because nginx is supposed to be fast and efficient). Still interested in the hardware though, as that's the greatest factor in determining speed.

Last I checked, the forums were run by 4 quad core web server with another 2 dual quad core systems for the database. All have 8gb of RAM and the database servers had 6 drives each. The main website is run by another 7 servers.

Huh, come again, whats me visiting VB forums got to do with the speed of this one or any others?

And yes, I do visit many Vb forums and the majority are as fast as one another when they dont have problems.

1 Box for it all.

Gentoo.
Dual 2.33GHz Quad Xeons.
16GB of RAM.
5 15K SAS drives running RAID 5.

Pretty much it.
