Hardware resources dissappearing?

I'm working on this old system, and it ran perfectly fine. I unplugged the old HD and hooked another one up temporarily just to try and format it. When I hooked the original one back up its giving me some error about resource conflicts in bios. I removed my sound card and then it boots up ok, despite still getting some resource error.

Sidenote: This is an old retarted gateway and it uses a UltraATA card to run the HDD and it really wont let me just hook it up to standard IDE slots.

So now I put my soundcard back in, and despite bios errors I can boot to windows. Device manager says theres not enough free resources to use the sound card though. Any ideas and why am I having these troubles since it was fine before and everything is in the same PCI slots they were originally?

Sum1 out there must know... really would like to get this thing back up and running.

try clearing CMOS.. also try regular 40 pin IDE cable and plug it into the mobo IDE controller..

Thanks for the suggestion, turns out the computer is just possessed and after about an hour and half of troubleshooting the oriniginal configuation decided to work again. Another thumbs up to Gateway

lol.. I know something about working on a possesed computer - once in a while one of my comps acts like it was possesed
