I'm looking for some helpful insights here on why my computer is not performing as I feel it should be.
First off, here's the specs:
2.8 Ghz P4 w/ 800Mhz FSB
Asus P4P-800 Deluxe
1 GB PC3200 DDR Mushkin Ram
Powercolor X800 Pro 256 MB DDR vid card
Dual 80GB Western Digital HD's w/ 8MB cache
530W PSU
17" Samsung LCD w/ Reforce running.
Running latest generation games such as CS: Source, Doom3, and Rome: Total War yields worrisome framerates. I've never ran FPS utilities in anything but CS, but in Source I am getting 40-50fps (red range with cl_showfps 1) when running around with people on screen, usually worse/skip/frame lag during a grenade explosion, smoke, or heavy engagement. This is at 1024x768 with almost all detail levels now down to medium or low. Rome lags if I have too many people on screen, especially if flame arrows are being fired.
This is, by most standards I'd think, a pretty monstruous rig, (vid card and memory are plenty, anyway). I read somewhere on NewEgg (where I purchased the vid card) that it isn't always recognized by Asus mobo's as an x800 unless you flash the bios, but I have no idea how to do this... I've already tried updating the Mobo and it didn't change anything.
There are serious performance issues here, anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
