Well I was thinking of using a computer I had lying around as a hardware firewall and probably use floppyfw. Now I have a server that has NAT enabled and it runs some virtual servers for DCHP and other things using VMWare Server 2. Using VMWare is there a way I could create a virtual server and use it as my hardware firewall?

I've been running Untangle in vmware workstation without any issues. I also have had a co-worker in a previous life ran untangle in a vm to allow access for students in the dorms. He said that it ran rather well

Yeah, I did that for a while. Need to have another NIC setup for your "outside" interface in the VMware Server Network Settings. Also, you need to make sure you turn off ALL MS services on that NIC in windows. Otherwise you're just asking for problems from the internets.
