What I would like to do is to capture an application, that has a WindowsGUI and an embedded D3D window, at 1280x1024. I have tried Camtasia, but it won't show the D3D window. I have tried FRAPS, but it will only show the D3D window.

The S-Video out is not really an option because I don't want to be limited to NTSC resolution.

Is there some sort of hardware solution that will capture everything that happens on the desktop and output it to AVI/MPG?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.
Price isn't that much of a concern, if it works well then I can spend big bucks on it as it is for work.

Must work on Windows.

I doubt you can do it in software because of the way it all works. The only way to do a high res capture would be to capture the signal going out to the monitor. Something of that nature would be expensive if it exists.

Then again, I just managed to do it with hypercam:

I captured the file in realtime using an Mjpeg codec. I then converted the file to wmv with windows media encoder.

Google hypercam, it's free, though that version has a small 'unregistered' logo in the top left. Not really a problem, and can be edited out with video editing software.

I really don't mind expensive, as long as it works.
At this point I would even settle for NTSC resolution. I just want better quality than hooking a DV camcorder up to my S-Video out.

Just to report back, HyperCam is quite nice indeed.
With sufficiently fast processors and fast storage its performance is acceptable.
Thank you for pointing it out to me, much appreciated.
