Hi! Ive posted this is gaming, but was told this is the better place to post.

Hi guys, this is my first post here, and after reading through many other posts, Im pretty sure this is the right place

Ive had my computer for a long time, upgrading parts individually. However, it seems to be running much slower than it was previously, and it feels like it may be time to upgrade again. I was hoping, I could get some advice as to what order I should do my upgrades. I hope copy/pasting my Everest Summary is ok. Please let me know if more information is needed!

EDIT: Answering sticky questions :D

1) PC is almost solely for gaming.
2) Budget isn't really an issue, however I usually shy away from the 1000$ video cards.
3) I live in British Columbia, Canada, usually order my parts from NCIX
4)The exact parts...is what my question is :)
5) My power supply is Corsair HX 620W
6) I don't really know much about overclocking.
7) I am running 1920x1080 on a 27" BenQ

What does "seems to be running much slower" mean ???

Theoretically, if its running slower than it was in the past, does that mean you should fix something?

It would be much easier to traverse the thread if you just listed the hardware you have - instead of making people dig thru that long list of partially useless information.

Does this mean you have 3 video cards? o rjust one GTX 570


Also - maybe explain what you are looking for more specifically. "Playing games" - what kind of games? or which ones in particular? is it slow meaning you aren't getting the frames/sec you want?
 
Sorry, new at this :)

I have had an FPS drop in League of Legends, especially on the ARAM map, Howling Abyss. I just have the one video card, and Im planning on playing Elder Scrolls Online, and would like to be able to do so at max graphic settings, without lag or glitches.

Sorry about the Everest thing, seemed like a good way to put all my stuff down there as I probably couldn't tell you off hand what processer or mobo I have. Also, when I first purchased my SSD, opening browser pages seemed lightning fast, as well as rebooting. Now it takes much much longer.

I just ran a windows assessment thing..says my Data Transfer rate from Primary hard drive is 5.4...That seems low for an SSD?

how much empty space is on the vertex, if you do not leave enough empty space then any SSD will get slower overtime as they simply cannot keep themselves "clean" and so speed suffers, make sure TRIM is enabled (it should be)

I would not count on the built in hardware assessment thing for windows it either way overshoots numbers or makes them sound worse then they really are, granted you do not have an extremely fast cpu, but it is more then reasonably fine, 4gb of ram is a bit low IMHO but should be ok, a 570 is still a good graphics card really.

I would double check how much room is left on the SSD, do a disk cleanup to remove crud that does not need to be there and something like Ccleaner to clean up what you can this might help to get some performance back.

I would advice to make a paging file a proper size for the total memory you have installed as this could save some space on the SSD as well, but this is certainly more advanced then most general users can do and can cause problems if not done right, a paging file on each drive can help performance.

Cleaning is first and foremost. Generally speaking 12gb or more free space is a good safe minimum as the SSD does need space to work with for its lifespan as well as being able to move things around when it does its thing.
 
Hard to tell but does that thing say you only have 4gb ram? I would most certainly want 8 or 16gb

Cleanup is probably key - a tip I have is, don't keep a lot of "documents" or media files on your SSD. They don't need the performance increase that program files/ gaming files need. Put them off onto a another drive. Temporary internet files, other temp files, and cached files can quickly free up a lot of space if they haven't been cleared up before either.
 
Alright, so I will definitely buy some new RAM. Its old anyways, probably needs to be replaced. I just did a full fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my SSD, however, after the clean install, it says that 70 gigs are used of it..Is this a setting somewhere that I have somehow screwed up?
 
what is the size of thee SSD you have 120gb I assume?
favorites, not needed installs such as anti-virus and so forth as mentioned do not really need to be on the SSD so you can save space. Stock install of 7 64bit home premium for me was ~48gb. If you take the time to really only put what needs to be on it there you can shave it down to ~38gb or less.

Keep in mind that SSD do not erase things like a standard drive will, the blocks "remember" what was on them, and the garbage collector and TRIM will tell the controller what needs to stay, what needs to move, and what can be flagged for re-use or basically erased, so it will take some time for the controller to work through the blocks, there are programs that can refresh these blocks sort of speak to get the unused capacity back faster however the controller if things are set proper (which stock windows 7 in AHCI mode does quite well IMHO) will take care of it, so in your case 70gb seems like an awful lot though I do not know how much a stock only needed stuff 7 ultimate will or should take.

If its not broken don't replace it, just buy more. Create a USB boot disk of MEMTEST if you are concerned that there is an issue with the RAM.

It either works or it doesn't, it doesn't get "old" and slow down.

HOWEVER, depending on the configuration of ram you have right right (2x2gb) then you may want to replace them with 4gb sticks.
 
ram is G Skill F3-12800CL9-4GBRL as stated which does mean 2x2gb so adding more shouldn`t be an issue

With your current system, here is what is taking up your extra space:

Swap file (4GB+)
Hibernation File 4GB

System Restore points - probably the biggest offender.

Windows update cache

Windows error logs and crash dumps

Windows temp files

Well, I formatted first. Then the cleanup. Seems to be running somewhat better. Im going to get more RAM soon. I think after that I need to upgrade my sound card, since its ancient, and possibly the power supply. I still have FPS lag in League Of Legends, but only at certain times. Especially during the Howling Abyss map.. I feel like I should be able to run it at max graphic settings, but I see drops from 100 fps down to the teens during big fights with a buncha minions there. Im currently using lower settings, but I would prefer not to.
 
its all about the tuning, running max out or running lowest it goes is not always the best solution in the majority of cases you need to find the best settings for your system and your hardware for the best experience, though you should get plenty of performance with your system as it is not low spec not by a long shot, long in the tooth kind of. Clock up the cpu if you can this will help as well it might be holding back the graphics card, not advising a massive clock of course.
 
Im pretty new to all this stuff, and inept at it. Which is initially why I came here for advice. I will do some research (google) on overclocking the cpu. Any particular number I should shoot for?
 
the 860s were known to overclock well enough provided they were used with a decent motherboard as well as a decent cpu heatsink, the stock one really does not have much room for cooling potential.

You should be able to do 3.4-3.5 without much of an issue, though I will repeat, make sure you have a decent cpu heatsink, and the case has good ventilation cooling is vastly important, its not the number of fans you have but the quality :)
