hi:

I was wondering, what if there was a [H]ardNews section in the forum and .....

- When a hardocp front page news post is made, a thread is automatically created (title->news post, news body->thread message).
- A link to this thread will be available beside the news post on hardocp front page.

= users are not allowed to created new threads in the [H]ardNews section, they are only allowed to reply.. this will ensure that the section stays intact
= this would allow people to make comments that are directly related to the news post
= this would probably get more people to sign up because they may want to make some comments regarding the news post

i think this would be cool.. Your thoughts and opinions.

thanks,
MJZ_5

I'll second this idea... only users able to post are users that paid for the subscription. Sounds like a good idea to me, though generally it is hard to take ideas like this and have them actually implemented. Suppose this thread could be a petition in a way.... what does everybody else think?

thanks for your support :) ... However, i think all users should be able to reply to the automated news threads. More people = better...

Ahh I thought that when you said that it would get more users to sign up you ment it as in paying subscribers... Either way, it sounds like a good idea.

My thoughts are that if it is worth talking about, someone will start a thread in GenMay on their own.

I instinctively look for a link to a thread to talk about those interesting news "flashes". But I won't go looking for them. Hint, hint. I think it's a fab idea. :D

It would be like the news sites or blogs that allow comments below each article. right?

I think thats cool.

yeah, kinda like anandtech... The reason i mentioned using the forum because (I think) it would just be much easier to implement

Quite frankly, I am not a fan of turning my front page into an extension of the forum. To put it simply, I don't want to be like Slashdot or any other site that links comments off their front page. It is a magnet for attention hungry idiots to spout drivel, nonsense, and to attack anything they see fit. I think that many comments sections turn good news pages into cesspools of idiocy. I don't know how many times I have clicked on comments on a tech site to find, "That sucks donkey nads!" People giving comments like that have no right to be linked off of our front page and they certainly should not get the publicity that others try to earn because they are just smart enough to click the comments button then hunt and peck.

good reasoning.

Plus that would add a lot of more thread activity, not that the servers couldnt handle it.

Also every single news topic might not be thread worthy. That is why some news sites get the "that sucks nads" comments.

of course the forums being the medium of comments would reduce the "anonymous" idiot poster and keep it down to just the everyday [H]ardOcper.

One of the reasons that I like the [H] is the simple reason that there are NOT comments / links to such for each of the news items on the 'front page". I've viewed HardOCP as news, reviews, tech articles, and the Forums for 'everything else' including discussing what comes from News, Reviews, etc.

Although they share much, keeping them separate keeps the dialog on a level and volume that makes it worth our while.

If you want automated news feeds - opera supports it - I get [H] news items fed to my browser at home so I'm always in the know.

Peace,
Tim

Thanks Kyle... I appreciate the time you take to answer questions like this. It makes me feel warm inside :)

Keep up the good work,

I still like the idea and even e-mailed Kyle about it becuase I'm a dumbass and forgot to check here first. I think the only people that comment are the ones that donated to the forum to see all the extras. That way trolls that we'ren't involved with the forum could comment. Even then you may want a moderater for comments. I understand that's a lot to ask for so I doubt it will happen.

i think it would be troublesome in the long run. retarded comments on the front page would suck

though i think maybe occasionally there is the right type of news that condones its self to user feedback, though hardly in a pc hardware sense.

my vote is nay
though it would be kinda acceptable if only registered forum users would see the quotes. and maybe the quotes were moderated as being really witty or interesting. but the forums dont exactly need publicity. they get plenty anyway.

the comments wouldn't be on the front page, the only thing on the front page would be the link to the thread on the hardnews section of the forums... (click on link, new window opens to forum)... if you want to prevent shit, it can be an hardocp registered (paid or just registered) user only that is able to see or use the section.

I'm not pushing for anything, just clearing things up :p
