Harddrive Racks?

I have an Antec 1080 and I hate the harddrive cages. I want to remove the top shelf and put in some type of rails to mount HDD's to. Any idea of where I would get the new pieces of metal to mount my HDD's to? Any idea how I would attach the new metal rails or racks to the existing metal within my case? (I cant weld)

Maybe racks like this?^^

Sheet metal from Home Depot (or other local supplier)
Metal brake from Harbor Freight (www.harborfreight.com)
Measure the metal, then cut it to size. Then you'll need to measure and drill holes as needed (so that the hdd's can be mounted, and so that the entire structure can be mounted in the front and at the top). Then bend it using your brake and rivet it to the case. That's the best way. Of course, you could always half-ass it and use some pipe stapping and screws. However, that won't be sturdy and it'll look like crap.

yea any department/home improvement/hardware store will have what you need.

Any way I could do without the brake? This was supposed to be a low-dollar mod.

Sure, you can use two pieces of angle iron and a bench vise...and a rubber mallet. That will give you a good bend. You could also use the edge of a bench and a rubber mallet, but the bench vise will hold the metal better and yeild better results.

Leave the two shelves in place, get a length of aluminum (flat or L) 3/4 x 1/16 or similar cut off four pieces to match the distance from the bottom shelf to the CD cage. Drill holes to match the HDD spacing you want, make two sets of the holes match the spacing of the shelves. Screw in two HDD's into the shelves securing the aluminium flats at the same time (you might need longer screws). Mount the other drives.

You can get low-dollar brakes, too. I bought one at Harbor Freight Tools (online and many local locations) for $15 for an 18" model. It'll serve you well for other sheet metal mods that you may do in the future as well.

Any tutorials online to working with sheetmetal in a computer case?

Specifically computer cases? Not that I know of. However, one of my favorite resources for many fabrication projects are tutorials for homebuilt aircraft builders. They do all kinds of sheet metal, wood, and composite/fiberglass construction, and more complex stuff than what most case modders do.

Anyways, here's a non-aircraft-related link you might be interested in:
