Hard Reset - PC Exclusive FPS

Hmm, yeah unfortunately I think I do need to finish it, because I see nothing that states the Exile portion.

This ending is incredibly or ridiculously hard, and I'm about to Hulk Smash.

still playing, can't finish the end and hesitant to put it to easy thinkinig that it will not unlock the extended edition. Anyone know this? If it will work, than no question I'm putting this to easy....first time for everything.

That boss fight isn't the end any more. When you finish it, whatever the difficulty, it should dump you straight into the first map of the DLC.

Even if it doesn't, as long as you keep a save from before you dropped the difficulty, you can always try again...

Anything in particular giving you trouble? What weapons have you got?

Oh, man where to start. Learned to avoid his laser, but I think there is just too much going on at once. Got him shooting, and dropping robots, the big chargers especially. But for guns, I have the Electric Mortar, the one that slows enemies (the dome), RPG, grenade launcher, plasma, machine gune. smart gun. The mortar, rpg, smart gun are all maxed.

Just a very hard ending, but it's still such a fun game to play. Only reason I haven't uninstalled it

For the original last boss, the crawler thing, ignore it while you kill off the enemies on the floor and don't take the big health packs until you're below 50% health.

For the hoard of enemies, get them rounded up and use one of the crowd-control weapons; I use the stasis grenade from electric mortar, then I use primary fire from the electric mortar to toss an electric grenade into the stasis area, then switch to the CLN grenade launcher, toss in a gravity grenade and also toss a standard grenade into the crowd. The CLN RPG is also powerful and the proximity mines might be useful but I've never used them.

For the crawler, I use only the NRG smart gun since it's basically a homing missile. I used both primary and alt fire. Alt-fire is probably more difficult to use if you're not close enough and the damn laser is hitting you; use the cargo for cover and even though those homing missiles go through things, they won't go through things right in front of you so don't kill yourself shooting it at the cargo. I've considered using the rail gun but I imagine that requires more effort than I could dedicate to aiming while being bombarded.

Oh man, I tried Hard Reset Demo originally and it difficulty turned me away from the game. Now I tried it again on Normal difficulty and it is so cool game actually :)

I can't believe it's only been 4 years since it came out; I thought this game was older than that.

Anyway, I recently really started playing this game (would previously play the first couple of levels) and finished it today. Great game!

There are well thought-out options for PC users (FOV adjustment, etc.). Nice tight old-school gameplay (no cover system; you really have to keep moving and strafing) and satisfying weapons. It's fun to upgrade your weapons and your character by collecting N.A.N.O. along the way. Very cool futuristic Blade-Runner type world. You can tell that the graphics aren't from 2015, but they hold up very well and there are some nice touches. And, the game runs really well at 4K with all graphics options maxed!

I'm going to give it another play-through at some point. The achievements are fun, and not annoying. There are no fetch quests in this game, which is a nice change.

If you by some chance missed it, pick it up on sale. If you have it and haven't played it, give it a shot! The game is paced well and doesn't overstay its welcome. It's not a 30 hour game, so you could probably knock it out in a weekend if you really hunker down and then move on to something else. It's a fun ride and the level design and variety is nice. There are two distinct zones and little to no backtracking.

I hope they release another one. they did shadow warrior and are working on shadow warrior 2 next hear. There are actually a lot of similarities in shadow warrior in the way things explode, i think in game references also. Anyway it has some great game concepts worth exploring.

I buzzed through it over a weekend sometime last year, the DLC is kind of interesting, and I wish more companies would do this. Instead dumping you into the main menu and making you feel like DLC/expansion is disconnected it literally just dumps you into it. You have this big epic climax and it just keeps going and I didn't even realize until like an hour into the expansion cause because the pacing slowed just enough for me to go "wait a minute how long is this game?"

That said I felt certain aspect of the game felt repetitive, its been so long I can't describe in detail but there are parts where youre like "ok lets get a move on". I think the robots start to feel a literally generic. I think they should have branched out more with weirdness as apposed to feeling like youre beating up Johnny 5 from short circuit for 12 hours.

Graphically the game still looks great. I think its inbetween now and HLE2 source. I think the crime that games commit isn't using older engines so much as being lazy and corner cutting. Most games coming out in the last couple years look pretty but cut corners on detail to get to gold which sucks. I feel like these guys actually played their own game, move through a room, investigate cabinets and things, point out stuff to be fixed or cleaned up, move on. It blows my mind that Ubisoft and the like clearly get away without actually play testing a game. Basically someone just runs through and notes bugs. Thats not good enough anymore. They need to actually play the fucking game.

I played Hard Reset and I enjoyed it mostly. I give it a 7.5/10 which to me is "good". The confusing story presentation and enemy repetitiveness took a couple points away for me.

I could never get past the second (?) boss encounter - the big gun. Eventually I gave up.

Yeah, I like how they integrated the DLC, but since it was done that way I'm sort of unclear on what the DLC was. What was the end of the original game? I had no sense of where the original game stopped and the DLC started. That's a GOOD thing because it never felt jarring or disjointed in any way...I'm just curious.

But yeah, although very good, it's not perfect. I get where you're coming from as far as the "let's move on" parts and the repetitive enemies. There is a decent variety, but some of the robots that I was battling during the boss battle were the same ones that I encountered during the first couple levels of the game. It didn't really bother me much though, probably due to the fact that the game didn't drag on and on.

Overall I wouldn't rank it as a 9.9/10 or anything but I agree with your assessment of at least a 7-7.5. And that's no slouch. Fun fact: when I switched to the "Games Details" view in Steam in order to see how many hours I'd played Hard Reset, you were listed in my friends list as having played it. Pretty cool that you'd reply to the thread shortly afterwards. :p

I think it was some 5 chapters after the original 7 (the game was somewhat short). Including a couple of bosses.

Man, I loved this game when it came out. I had no idea there was even DLC for it, I'll have to re-install it and see whats up.

bought the game for cheap ($3.75) during one of those Steam sales awhile back and it's been sitting in my backlog ever since...have been meaning to play it for awhile...I hear it's a fairly short game so I'll probably give it a go soon

The only thing that I don't like about steam is when you walk away or something it's still timing you, It says it took me like 56 hours beat it. I think it was more like 8-12. Might be shorter but I really take my time with games.

it has a lot of collectible material that you can use for upgrades. also you can replay with your upgraded loadout. give it some additional value.

Flying Wild Hog is bringing its formerly PC-exclusive first-person shooter Hard Reset to PS4, Xbox One and PC as Hard Reset Redux...this enhanced version of the 2011 sci-fi FPS will feature upgraded visuals, rebalanced design, new enemies and weapons - like the Shadow Warrior-esque cyber-katana...

Awesome...I wonder if it'll be a free upgrade for PC users like when the Extended Edition came out?

The new enemy variants should address one of the few complaints that piscian18 had with the game. I'm stoked to play through it again with the updated release!

The gameplay was interesting.

Problem for me was the story was constantly kicking me in the face but still didn't make sense.

I'm wondering if the game will use DX11 this time...didn't the Enhanced Edition already improve the graphics, enemies etc?...how much can they improve it again?

I wish them the best with it. From a console perspective I think Hard Reset scales well. We're just now getting to the point on consoles where they can handle it at 1080p with all the on screen sprites.

I fear though that with the console gamers attention span and access they're not going to make their labor back on the Digital sales. I'm assuming theres no way this is going to retail. Had to dig up my complaints. Man I think I was probably drunk when I wrote that, grammar wise.

I just generally felt like on the minion level there were at most 5-10 enemies. One way a lot of games get around that sameyness is with Color Palets. Left4Dead and Dead Rising 3 felt like they did a good job. whatever procedure they used managed to keep each enemy reasonably distinct. When you have 10+ enemies on screen and you use the exact color pallet they kind of mesh together visually and from a FPS perspective that becomes taxing on the eyes. Especially when its just bright shiny looking robots. I'm no designer I'm just telling you what my experience was when I sat down and hit this in one go. I got a sort of generic enemy fatigue.

In regards to the story yeah, I don't believe it was a translation issue I think they just got cute with the narrative. I don't remember what the story was but you really were just kind of like "wuuu" through most of it and not because it was deep or abstract. Just "not enough info" and It does effect your motivation.

I'm playing Stalker: Clear Sky right now which to this day is a buggy mess and a nightmare to play through, but even though theres no cutscenes and its dialog mostly given through interaction my goals feel reasonably clear and my motivation feels solid. I know pretty clear why I'm continuing forward beyond deleting this mutant off my backlog.

With Hard Reset there were a lot of moments where I'd be walking down a corridor and stop mentally going "Ok what was I doing again? why am I in this tunnel?"

i just hope the "console prep" is part of their strategy so they can release Hard reset 2 for a wider audience.

The Redux version sounds nice, but I hope the console development won't harm the PC version because we all know that console ports usually turn out to be horrible. Really loved this game when I bought it at launch.

nice. I just hope they dont put a full price on this game. if they can hit the 19-29$ mark, should be pretty popular on consoles. Loved playing the OG on PC.

I just finished the Redux version of this a little while ago. Redux thread here but I wanted to post in the main since there's more/better discussion in this one.

Decided to take a small break from No Man's Sky to play something a little less grindy and this was perfect. It's been a couple of years since I finished the older version, so I didn't really notice the changes since I didn't play them back to back. Game is still as fun as ever and runs so darn well...everything set to Ultra with every option enabled/max'd, smooth as silk even with multiple enemies and explosions on screen.

I know some people had some complaints about the story and overall enemy variety but man it gets so many things right. Tight controls, varied and satisfying weapons, lots of things to blow up, secret areas, environmental kills, boss fights, etc... I absolutely love the gritty, futuristic cyberpunky style of this game and I'm sure I'll play through it again at some point. It's a nice little romp when you're in the mood for something a little bit more old school like Painkiller, Serious Sam, or Doom.

yeah, I played it once, then the expansion. I own the new version but have not gotten to it, aside from a few minutes. It is supposed to have a sword but apparently needs to be unlocked. Anyway damn fine game.

Hard Reset Extended Edition is currently $1.49 (90% off) in the Steam store. Some people preferred this version to the Redux due to changes that were made to the latter - I completed and enjoyed both.
