Hard reset & checkpoint problem

So here's the deal: I'm folding on my 1800+@2220 under Win98. Things are fine until I get a hardlock caused by something I run, and have to use the Reset button on my case. Then, F@H shows a "Checksums don't match" message and restarts the whole WU :( The FahLog entries from before the reboot disappear as well...
I'm wondering, has anybody faced the same issue?

Any ideas around this are welcome :)
 
Under 98SE FAH definitely does not like to be unceremoniously shut down. Which is what your hard lock did to it. You can pretty much count on a hard lock or a reset prior to graciously shutting down FAH to cause it to restart from the beginning on next start up. Sucks I know, but that's the way it seems to work in 98SE. With XP on the other hand hard locks don't seem to affect it that way usually.

So if possible use ctrl-c to shut down FAH. Obviously you can't do that with a hard lock.

I'm currently wondering whether this could be an issue caused by the write-behind caching algorithms of Win98. I just disabled it but I'll wait a couple of hours before testing whether this is a solution as i just passed 50% on the current WU :D
 
I lost all kinds of Wus while I was running W98SE. It was unstable and would lockup once a week or so losing the current WU and restarting it.

The best thing I did was upgrade to Windows XP. Almost all of my problems related to F@H have went away as well as a number of other problems that were in W98SE.

Go to XP if you can it, will resolve a lot of issues.
 
I know now that I write this that both will crash and burn, but both of my 98SE machines have run flawlessly since January 5th or 6th. Can't remember exactly when I turned them back on after coming back from spending two weeks in Maui. <sigh> Maui........

No reboots. Both used on a semi regular basis for stuff like spreadsheets, word processing, surfing and cd burning. 98SE isn't always a big pile of crap. Just most of the time. :D

Well, it's not write-behind caching... Just borked an hour of folding while testing this :D :D :D This issue may be the straw that breaks the camel's back and makes me switch to Win2k pro...

Little_Kenny, I too am a fan of 98 :) Damn, I don't even need antivirus software these days - nobody bothers to attack 98s these days :)

Well, I'm going back to thinking...
