Hard drive unformatted itself

I formatted a partition on this 250gig WD250bb (or was it gb or bg... it is the 2 meg cache kind) and a few days later it became "unformatted" or unpartitioned and I couldn't see it in "my computer" but I can see it in bios and in computer management.

I'm prety sure it's a bad hard drive but I really hope not.. my windows has been screwy because of varying corruption issues with my current hard drive dying and I'm hoping that's the only problem: a screwed up formatting by a screwed up windows install.

Have you tried using a different "known good" cable? A bad cable can cause many strange things to happen.
 
Hey, that happened to me two days ago. There wasn't anything uber important on it. It was a wd800bb in a Vantec Nexstar enclosure. I realy thought it was wierd of it to disapper. I was running a Livestate backup to it overnight and went to check in the morning and there was no partition.

I reformated it in PQMagic, then "shreded" it and created a partition on it. So far its good.

It was a refurb drive that I use to keep backups on until I can burn them to DVD.
 
I did change the cable and the partition was still gone but the cable I used was the cable I have my current HD on, works perfectly fine. Cept for the fact that my HD is corrupting itself slowly and making weird noises.
