Hey, I'm experiencing a problem with my computer, I think it might be my hard drive. It's loading everything entirely to slow, even the start menu. Also the windows logo takes about one minute to load (used to take 10 seconds). I want to say its my hard drive because it sounds as if its writing very slowing and in bursts rather then all at once. I wanted to try a system restore to see if it was windows but it won't allow me to pick any of the checkpoints that I created, the next button won't move. ALSO, very weird, the button to turn my computer on is sticking (no i didn't spill anything). Anyhow, what are some troubleshootings I should perform before I order a new one from newegg. This 250 GIG 7200 MAXTOR is only a year and a half old.

windows xp home
gig of DDR corsair ram
3200 amd athlon
6800 GT 256MB
ASUS kv8 special mobo
 
i get this error everytime i try to boot an exe:

"Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed. "

maybe i got a virus what do you think? I was messing around with daemon tools right before all of this happened too. some kind of ISO error? I dunno
 
Hard drives can develop bad areas with weak magnetic properties, causing weak read/write properties.

HD vendors usually offer utilities to test the read/write properties over the entire surface of the drive platters. For example, Western Digital offers DLGDIAG, which is excellent for diagnosing WD HDs.

These programs will scan the entire drive, testing for reliable read/write magnetic levels for every formatted storage location. If a weak location is detected, the program will make multiple attempts to read data from that location, write that data to a known-good location, and then mark the bad area to prevent re-use.

Make sure you use a diagnostic utility for your exact HD model.

I'd recommend visiting the HD-maker's site, downloading the diagnostic utility for your exact drive model and using it to test the integrity of your HD.
