Hello,

I just got done building a new computer for my friend. When I ran SpeedFan, I got the following temps:

CPU: 39°C
Mobo: 38°C
HD: 62°C

How is his hard drive running at 62°C? Is this a hard drive malfunction, does he need a fan blowing on it, or does it just naturally run hot? Also, I believe the side of the case (Antec Sonata II) was off at the time. Also, this is the hard drive Western Digital Caviar SE 120GB.

Any suggestions?
 
I've never, EVER, seen a drive break 50c and live for a very long...the temp sensor is probobly busted...still, put a fan on it.
 
Touch the drive. If it's 62 C you'll know right away. Odds are, though, the temp sensor is reading it completely wrong.

 
Update: When the computer is first turned on, it starts at about 38°C. After about 10 minutes, it shoots up to about 50°C. The senor seems to be working, but is it possible it's off by about 15°C?

Thats possable.

As long as you can hold your hand on the drive then you will be fine, likely a bad temp sensor.
