I have two IDE hard drives, one is from my old computer; its a WD 80gb and my new one is a Seagate 320gb. My old hd is full (4% free space) and my new one shows 298gb. For some reason, it shows that I'm using 168gb but when I select all the folders (hidden ones too) in my C:\ drive, it says 121gb. I'm wonder wheres the other ~47gb? And while I'm at it, does anyone know how I can get the other 22gb from the 320gb?

does anyone know how I can get the other 22gb from the 320gb?
That's lost through formatting, no disk is ever as big as advertised. Usually 5-10% is lost when it's formatted for use.
On the side of the retail package in which you bought your HDD it said that 1GB is defined as 1,000,000,000 Bytes. Most operating systems that I know uses GiB (GibiBtyes) to measure space, which are 1024^3 Bytes.And while I'm at it, does anyone know how I can get the other 22gb from the 320gb?

There is nothing lost...sigh. Why do people keep saying they have less space. They have the exact space they bought...no more and no less.

How can you say they have the space that they bought? When I bought my 250gb hard drives, I saw 232.5, so where are my missing GB then?

Thank you everyone, however, that 22gb isn't really that important to me. I was just wondering where that 47gb went. Its not as if it was missing from the beginning. I formatted it around a month ago and reinstalled the OS and all my programs and when I click C:\ -> Properties, it shows 168gb used. However, when I select all my folders (hidden as well) inside C:\, it shows only 121gb used.
