Hi again , i would like to to know which hdd out of these two is better, ie faster. im looking to get a sata2 500gb hdd for my current AGP pc which only sports a saat1 interface but i am going to do a new build next year and add this hdd to it.

both are seagate hdd and the only major difference i see is the cache size?

here they are anyway:

i am mainly going to use it for storage and launching maybe one or two applications :) thanks in advance

Well the 32MB cache will help, but it's probably going to be too small to be noticed, but there nonetheless. The biggest difference is that the .11 drive uses higher density platters so it has higher STR(sustained transfer rate), so it is faster.

I'd go with the 7200.11 but the 7200.10 will get the job done.

Purchased 22 500GB 7200.10 drives for 6 machines at work a few weeks ago. All E6850 on P5K deluxes with a few in 4xraid

2 failed during OS mount
1 failed in a x4RAID by first throwing SMART errors then total fail (after 1 week)
1 more is increasingly throwing SMARTs in another x4-RAID setup. Getting ready to pull him.

First 3 fails re-confirmed in a known good system in single mode.

4 failures out of 22 in a few weeks kinda sucks I think.

Bought a WD 750GB for my personal machine last week.

8 x 500 gb segate .10, 1 failed after 3 months or so, others till doing well, all 8 in raid 5 array

Weird, but happens. Firmware on those drives?
