Hard-drive Recovery?

I think my primary hard-drive crashed. The computer won't boot into windows... but it will let me access the bios. Is there any hard-drive recovery software I can download? Or maybe a way to see if a virus is in the boot sector?

Is the hard drive being picked up by the bios fine? Where exactly is it failing? It may simply be a screwed up windows install or it could be a more serious corruption of the filesystem or drive failure.

Knoppix is a nice boot-cd for recovery assuming its just a screwed up OS.

OS had been on there forever. It's possible it got messed up somehow. My wife said she was doing a ad-aware scan and the PC froze. Never booted up again. I can't go into safe mode either, it just does a continuous reboot by itself if I don't enter bios.

Found an old Alienware Recovery CD. Did a diskcheck and it says:

Read Sector Failure, Result = 1, Drive = 1, sectors 39081775 to 39081839
