I'm looking to add a second hard drive because my main 40gb is starting to get full with the size of games and with me storing MP3's from my CD collection now that I have an MP3 player. I had a couple questions:

If i go SATA can it just be connected or does a raid type array need to be setup?

I want to keep my standard ATA main hard drive since I don't really want to reformat and reinstall everything again since I just did it a month ago... am I crazy for doing that? I'm mainly thinking of using the SATA to install all my games and the main hard drive for the WinXP and MP3/other data storage.

What is the main OEM vs. Retail difference with hard drives? Just the warranty?

Just connect it, you don't have to set up a RAID.

It's up to you - though I would say the newer drive would be a better performer than your current, so it would help with Windows loading. Either way, it's all your choice.

OEM drives have longer warranties in most cases, but they also don't come in a retail box, nor do they come with any cables. Not a big deal.

A good choice, but I'd suggest getting the drive from zipzoomfly. ZZF packages their hard drives better for shipping, plus they offer free 2nd day air FedEx.

Thanks for the input. I'll go ahead and get that one from ZZF and I'll replace the old one someday in the future when i'm in the mood to reformat again :)
