Hard Drive Question

I'm currently running a 60gb Western Digital 7200RPM and have been wanting to get a raptor for quite some time now but had a few questions about my particular setup.

Would it be smart (read faster) to run a 36.7GB for strictly the OS and then get a 74GB for games and all other programs? Or would I not see a difference if I threw the OS and programs on one 74GB drive since it's so fast?

Anyone else doing something like this?

I'm not sure about the rest of it, but don't buy the 36 gig raptor. It is slow, you can easily buy a 300gb 7200rpm drive that will meet or exceed its performance in most situations.

If you want to get 2 74gb drives and run one for os and the other for programs/games you could. I'm just not sure that you would notice the improvement, at least not enough to be worth all the extra money.

WD360GD isn't worth $100. It will be a step up from the 60GB you have, but so is a 250GB 16MB drive (you can get a WD2500KS for $92.20 shipped from ZZF) with a lot more space and similar performance.

The 73GB Raptor has a much better return on the dollar, particularly for loading games. If you change the plan you threw out from a WD360GD with a WD740GD to a WD2500KS teamed with a WD740GD, you'd have a pretty solid setup. Plenty of space for stuff like music, pictures, and movies, while having great Raptor performance for your most frequently accessed games and programs.
