Hard Drive PRoblem, I think?

Lately the red light on my Aspire X-Dreamer II has not been glowing. In actuality, i dun even remember if it glowed before. However, the computer has had random shutdowns lately and sometimes the screen would go blank but the computer would still be on. The red means that my hard drive is functioning correctly. My hard-drive seems to be perfectly set up in my computer though, just liek it was when it worked. Any other possible issues why this is happening?

P.S - I havea 500 watt Ultra X-connect power supply.
