Hard Drive Prices?

How come hard drive prices are so high?
for example this Samsung F3 7200rpm 1TB drive is $139.99

A few months ago these things were $69.99 or less.
Same goes for all the 1TB Western Digital drives

Why are these so expensive now?

correct the motors used in HDDs are sourced from a company in Thailand that company the name eludes me supplies 70% of all motors used in HDDs with there factory out of commission the other players in the industry that provide 30% of the market now have to supply the other 70% its a huge strain on them and theres shortages do to it, as the motors are now scarce prices are increasing wildly.

I noticed bestbuy prices are slowly creeping up.

I usually hit up bestbuy for quick laptop replacement drives.

WD Scorpio blue drives 320GB was normally $50 after having bestbuy store price match with their online site.

Now it is $60 and slowly still going up.

Maybe it's local but every sunday they advertised 2tb external drives and they are always less than $100.

I agree, I just bought a 2TB WD for $109 at my local Best Buy.
