I currently have $158 US and I was wondering if I should get a new Hard Drive or Processor?

I currently have this:
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8GHz 266FSB
Hard Drive: Seagate 40GB 5300RPM+

And I thought I could upgrade to this options depending on which one I choose to upgrade:
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHz 400FSB (The latest my mobo supports)
Hard Drives:
74GB WD RAPTOR SERIAL ATA WD740GD SATA 10000RPM
Maxtor 250Gb SATA/150 8Mb Cache 7200RPM 7Y250MO
Or another?

Help is appriciated

Thanks & Regards

Are you filling up your current hard drive? Or are you just looking for a boost in performance from getting a new hard drive? Loading times seem a little slow? If so, get a new hard drive.

Otherwise, processor upgrade. Though I might suggest getting a Barton 2500+ 333 Mhz FSB 512 K L2 cache and then overclocking it.

yeah, i have to say i agree w/ this assessment.

if you're looking for the biggest boost in performance, you'll get it by upgrading CPU. If you want to hold on a bit, you can get some pretty good 939 systems in the near future, then just spend like $20.00 on a new HDD (if you need storage) and wait for the price cuts on socket 939.
