Hard drive not being recognised!

Hey all,

I've just bought some new components to make a server outa my old althon 1500 box. The thing is i bought a Excelstor 80gb 7200rpm hard drive and when i plug the ide cable in the mobo doesnt pick it up. The mobo is an old k75SA board, well thats the code written on it.

I was wondering if there was anyway to get th mobo to recognise the Hard drive?

Spec;

Althon 1500
256 ram
64mb geforce3 graphics
Excelstor 80gb 7200rpm
52x cd drive
 
Ummm...not seen by the BIOS? Not seen by Windows?

Are the jumpers right? Is the drive getting power? Is the cable good? Firmly plugged in at both ends?

You gotta give us SOME relevant info if you want us to help.
 
that mobo is fairly reliable at picking up drives, so provided you got a working IDE cable (round the right way) and power and the drive set to master it'll see it, unless the drive is fried.
 
Sorry bout lack of info, Its the exact same of HD as the one in my sig and it works fine.

but when i plug the second one in it does get recognised on the one in my sig, In my other system it is getting power and i swapped the ide cables around to see if it was that but i dont think it is. The only thing left is for me to try and format it in my other comp or fiddle with the jumpers.

definately jumpers then, both to CS or one to MS and other to SL, should sort it.

Screw CS....it causes more problems....and there really is no need to ever use it. Look at both drives for jumper info, or visit their websites for the correct jumpering info. Then set them accordingly. It's probably the easiest thing to do.
 
Update;

Tried switched the jumper and got nothing, Now the board doesnt post. The fans turn on and i can even open the cd tray but nothing, the monitor doesnt come on or anything. What now :(
 
so the board will post without that drive in the system?

could it be a short in one of the power wires?

maybe you need to update the bios on the board? put the jumpers to cable select and try that
