K I've got this system here that keeps freezing right on the xp logo screen. I've tried to reformat it, but it it keeps freezing when it's installing windows xp. I've got 2 other computers here in my house. Is there a way I could take one of the hard drives out of one of them and test it in the computer thats freezing on xp logo?? I just want to see if the hard drive is shot. Does it sound like a classic, "dead hard drive"?
 
If it freezes at the exact same place every time, it is more likely a corrupt file, driver problem, etc. Admittedly, a corrupt file could be caused by HDD on its way out, but there are a myriad of other potential causes of causes of corruption.

Grab the maunfacturer diagnostic program from your hard drive maker and post back what it says.
 
My floppy drive is being a fuckign bitch, and won't make the diagnostic disk. So is there anything else I can do to figure out whats going on?? I'm installing windows xp corprate right now, using a different cd. Perhaps this will fix it...Any other ideas man??
 
Use the other computer in your house to make the diagnostic disk. Installing various versions of windows isn't going to help you. You need to figure out if that harddrive has problems first.
 
K I've reformatted and installed windows, but now its freezing at the exact same place on the welcome screen...What could this be from?? Is this a hard drive problem? What do you think?
 
I think you should calm down, stop trying to install OS's, and make a hard drive diagnostics disk with one of your other computers. Installing XP 100 times won't solve anything, even if it does work, because you have to determine what's going wrong. Run the disk, see what it says, and tell us what you find. We can't help you fix anything if you don't take our advice! :p

Also, although you haven't said anything directly, I would recommend not referencing any 'questionable' software you may or may not be using. It is strictly against the forum rules and will get you a swift kick in the backside :)
