Hard drive has vanished!

So last night I was using my computer as I normally do, surfing the web, copying a file from a CD to a hard drive and listening to music. Suddenly my PC rebooted! When it restarted I noticed that one of my hard drives was gone. It wasn't showing up when I went under My Computer.

I've rebooted a couple of times but its not showing up. Anyone know what I can do to get my HD back?
 
If your talking about disk 2

Right click to and initialize it, then partition it. If it was working before I really hope your hd isnt dying.

Yeah, I've tried right-clicking on it to Initialize it. All the happens is I get the hour-glass icon for a second or two, and then nothing. :(
 
Is it a Sata drive?

If it is try taking out the cable from the mobo and putting it back in. Then try to initialize it again

Nope. Its IDE. I tried reseating the connections to, but no love. :(
 
I fiddled with some cables in it and now I get this:



Although Disk Management says its online, I don't see it in Windows. Am I getting closer to getting it fixed? :)
 
Looks like it just needs a format and a drive letter and your ready to go? If you had data on there a recovery program MIGHT get it back for you.

Can you recommend such a program?
 
You dont need a program you can do it from the disk manager.

Just right click and choose new partition I believe, then it'll ask you what format, pick ntfs.
Then you should be ready to go

That will erase all data on the HD....

Well the problem is that these programs are rather expensive. I ran a demo version of software made by Stellar Phoenix. It showed that all of my files are still there, which is good. I'm just not sure how to rescue them at this point.

Does anyone know if Norton Disk Doctor will revive my wounded hard drive?
 
I've got the same problem...hd is in disk management console but not accessible, and lots of data in it that i don't want to erase by converting it to dynamic disk. Used Recover my files v3.80 and all of data found, problem is, if i purchase, where will I store data (80g) if I can't save it yet to the same disk??? my other drive is only 40g and can only accomodate half. suggestions please...
 
Um, you can convert to dynamic disk without losing anything, though, there is a possibility that you might.
 
I had a simialr problem and what it ended up being was that the BIOS somehow wasn't autodetecting the drive. Don't know if you have checked that yet.
