ok i have a Western Digital External 80gig hard drive that for some reason stopped working today. When i plug in the power to it, the lights just blink--no hard drive spinning or anything. So i called Tech Support and they say it could be the power supply or i might have to get a replacement hard drive (meaning id loose all my data)...
i know you can take out the HD from the housing and put it in as a slave into a computer to get the data but thatll void my warrenty...and i asked Tech Support that when i send my Hard Drive in to them will they determine if its a problem with housing or the HD is dead or not... they told me that they do tests but i would never find out the tests and not know the problem....and the only way i get my data back is either the slave way (which voids warrenty) or i get it sent to data recovery people (which costs like alot of money over $500+ and even more).... if anyone knows anything about this stuff please lemme know....
is there way you can tell if the HD is dead or if the housing is just messed up?
thanks
