Hard Drive Decisions Help

Hey,
My friend has this HDD: A SeaGate Cheetah, Cheetah 18LP.
Capacity: 9.11 GB
Speed: 10000 rpm
Average Read Time: 5.4 ms
SCSI

How much do you think that its worth? (It is a used drive)
Should I trade him a 7200.7 SeaGate 120 GB HDD for that one (plus $$?)
Also, what is the cheapest SCSI card that I can buy?
(He has some scsi card, but I am not sure why, its external. The card fits into a PCI slot, but has only one slot that is external. I do not know much about it, however, when I get the infornmation form him on it, I will post it.)

Do you think that HDD is worth it?

SR had that Cheetah unit on their bench in 1999 - 6 years ago next week. Yes, I know you see that 5.4ms seek time and think it's fast - but it also has a puny 1MB buffer, will sound like a buzzsaw in your case, and doesn't benefit from the many advances in desktop hard drive performance of this millenium. I have a pretty good sized collection of old SCSI drives, but even by my standards the Cheetah 18LP belongs in retirement.

One fact of life in the computer world. You gain nothing from going backwards. 6 years is a long time in this business. Unless you like to collect antiques and play with vintage hardware for fun (which is fine, it’s a great hobby) stick with what we know works. It will cost you less in the end.

Value-wise, that drive is Aprox. $10 + shipping on FS/T and E-bay. Not a good deal whatsoever, regardless of the technology involved.

How is 120 gigs to 9 gigs even a valid consideration? If you were going to do a trade, wouldn't it be better to look for something that isn't a boat anchor? Something that has some space on it would be a bonus, no? lol How about a trade for a 100GB SCSI and some cash.... Now that I could see being worth a post on a forum.
